Please note: Throughout our website we may refer to an individual wanting to use the Claims Portal without legal representation as either an Unrepresented Claimant or a Litigant in Person (LiP).

The question of litigants in person registering for access to the Claims Portal is currently under consideration by the Ministry of Justice and the Portal board.

In theory a litigant in person can register for a Claims Portal account and attempt to complete the process. Please be advised, the Claims Portal is not designed to support litigants in person, therefore you may find it difficult to navigate and complete the process. However, we do have User Guides available and a Training site to help you familiarise yourself with the navigation of the Portal and the claims process.

Whilst access to the Portal is available to litigants in person (LiP), the number of LiPs that have registered to use the Portal in the last 10 years is minimal. The majority of users submitting claims through the Portal are claimant representatives; this is why the service is set up primarily for them.

You can contact the insurer directly and they will be able to process your claim outside of the Portal. Alternatively you may find it easier to contact a solicitor, not all solicitors will charge for their services.

If you wish to proceed with your registration on the Portal as LiP please move onto our 'Ready to register' page.
